Ma l’età dell’oro è oramai lontana…

Per quanto riguarda il Bel Paese il sipario cala il 16 febbraio 2009 con un laconico comunicato nel quale si annuncia la chiusura della maggior parte dei web service offerti.

Lycos, attualmente, opera però ancora in molte aree del globo. Il core business rimane negli Stati Uniti, mentre in altri Paesi sono previste joint venture con operatori locali.

Da segnalare, negli anni, anche qualche acquisizione per diversificare e rilanciare l’offerta: Tripod, storico sito di web hosting gratuito, e Jubii società danese che fornisce un servizio di web mail innovativo che permette, per esempio, di gestire mail (davvero Giga) che possono essere utilizzate anche per lo storage dei file.
